Fernando has been traveling the world for eight years: “I am prioritizing my quality of life”

Many people consider that to travel the world it is essential to know English, and that it is easier to enter different countries with a foreign passport. However, Fernando Calligo for eight years shows that the reality is completely different.

He lived in Marcos Paz, and worked for a time as a dental prosthesis technician, but he was not happy with his routine. In dialogue with Tennessee He assured that “he felt that he did not want to spend his life doing just one thing” and made the decision to change his life forever.

In 2015 he left the country as a tourist and did not return. He put together a backpack with a few belongings and on a sign that he carries everywhere, he wrote his presentation: “I am Fernando, from Argentina” (“I am Fernando, from Argentina”).

during those years He was on four continents and visited 30 countries. “Since I only speak Spanish, whenever I get somewhere I look for groups of Latinos and from there I find work and accommodation. I have already lived in more than 40 family houses, ”she told TN.

When he made the decision to live traveling, his environment considered him “an unstable person, without a plan” and now that image has changed. “They see me well and they understand. In these years I have never been sick. I am not only living my life but I am prioritizing my quality of life”, he assured.

To cover the expenses that arise, in some places he gives “talks in Spanish about the trip” or teaches “Argentine food classes”, and teaches how to make roasts, empanadas, and chimichurri.

What is normal in Argentina is a success here. In Estonia, for example, they hired me to make chimichurri because they love the seasoning but they didn’t know how to make it,” he said.

About not knowing English, Fernando explains that “it is not that he does not want to learn” but that by speaking only in Spanish he manages to attract attention and turns out to be “a more interesting person”. “This opens more doors for me, people come to know my story, they stop me to take photos and they always offer me help,” she said.

Calligo dreams of setting up his own hostel in some country and spending ten years traveling the same way he has been doing it. “It is possible to arrive as a tourist anywhere and stay. I want to show that we Argentines can enter 156 countries with our passport and that you can have another lifewe just have to be encouraged to leave the system we are used to and get away from the routine”, he reflected.
